Program Offerings

The School-Age program runs in three modes throughout the year — giving older children a safe, engaging space before school, after school, and on every closure day.

🌅

Before & After School

A productive morning with learning centres and snacks before the Busy Bees bus takes children to school. After school, children return for snacks, outdoor play, and focused activities to close out the day.

📅

Full Day Care

On PD Days, March Break, and Winter Break, school-age children enjoy a well-rounded full day — two outdoor sessions, learning centres, lunch, a reading/quiet period, afternoon snack, and structured activities.

☀️

Summer Camp

July and August bring weekly themed activities, cooperative games, arts, dramatics, excursions, the Snuggle Up Reading Program, and limited electronics use. Full day schedule applies throughout.

School-Age Daily Schedules

Structured predictability gives school-age children the stability they need to decompress after school and engage fully during full closure days.

How Does Learning Happen @ Busy Bees

Our educators use How Does Learning Happen? — Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years. The School-Age program is built around four foundational conditions for children to grow and flourish.

🏠

Belonging

School-age children thrive with a strong sense of belonging outside of the school environment. At Busy Bees, each child is valued for who they are. We build supportive peer relationships and collaborate with families to ensure continuity between home, school, and the centre. Children feel connected and part of a warm, consistent community.

💚

Well-Being

After a full day at school, routines, outdoor play, snacks, and quiet time are thoughtfully planned to help school-age children decompress, self-regulate, and recharge. We address physical and mental health and encourage open communication between staff, children, and families.

🔍

Engagement

School-age children are capable, independent explorers. We provide an environment where they can take reasonable risks, be challenged, and develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and social skills through active play, group projects, and creative activities. Children take initiative and lead activities.

🎨

Expression

We respect the diverse languages and cultures of all families. School-age children communicate through words, creativity, leadership, and collaboration. We provide language-rich environments, reading programs, group discussions, and creative activities that allow every child to express themselves with confidence.
